Which alphabet will messages to South America use?
Portuguese is spoken in Brazil and Spanish in most other countries, with English in Guyana, Dutch in Suriname and indigenous languages alongside Spanish in Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay. Portuguese ã, õ, ç, á and ê and Spanish á, í, ó and ú sit outside GSM-7, so accented text is sent in Unicode at 70 characters per segment. Writing without those accents keeps a message at 160 characters.

Time zones run from UTC-5 in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru to UTC-3 in Argentina, Uruguay and eastern Brazil; Chile changes clocks for summer, and Paraguay stays at UTC-3 all year. A send at 10:00 in Sao Paulo arrives at 08:00 in Bogota and Lima.
